In Exchange

The In Exchange show profiles small artist books that were created in limited editions for the sole purpose of exchanging with other artists. The first book exchange I participated in was coordinated by Shereen LaPlantz in 2001. It seemed daunting and nerve-wracking to create an artist book edition to be given to other artists--most of whom I didn't know well. But it was a fabulous experience--the giving and the getting of artist books--yours to keep. It was like getting presents! When you participate in an exchange, the books take every form, shape and use all sorts of unbook-like materials imaginable. I have participated in a number of exchanges over the years and have collected over 150 artist books. It was difficult to decide which ones to select for the show, they are all so magical.
