Bibliofiles, March 9 - 31, 2007

The field of artists books is known for its diversity. Artists' books can range anywhere between lavish, hand printed and bound books to ephemeral photocopied pamphlets. This new exhibition by ABBA (A Buncha Book Artists) called "Bibliofiles" is an attempt to address that diversity by creating a simple contrast. Working with the title and its bureaucratic associations, ABBA has designed an installation where the method of presentation (using the drab, anonymous, repetitive filing systems of the everyday office) is placed in sharp contrast to the eclectic range works that it contains. Artists' books continually resist any attempts at categorization, and this installation is way of making that fact explicit.

ABBA is an Arizona State University student-run organization of interdisciplinary artists and writers working in the contemporary artist book movement. Our focus lies in making, exhibiting, and promoting artists' books as well as educating the public about the potential of the book as an art form. The organization consists of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and independent artists of all experience levels.
